Phenomenal! Fantastic! Amazing! I have tears in my eyes from this beautiful story. The wonderful storytelling, the original artwork, and the exceptional soundtrack. All of these things, and more, will you find, in "The Grey Rainbow".

BlackOlive, your group is great at storytelling, and I can not wait for the sequels to Tainted Olive.

I don't even know where to begin in this review, that I write with a smile on my face, and enlightenment in my heart, and indeed, my very soul. From the beginning, this story, I can't call it a simple game, draws the player in. From the grey world of The Detective, to the vibrantly colored world of the mice, the Old Man, and many more, memorable, very well designed characters.

And before anyone starts to think that this game is only deep story, it has great puzzle logic, and fantastic humor that you will laugh at.

I know that this is your first game, but to me it is the second, so once again, this was a lovely game. Keep up the great work.

Alright. This is a new approach (to me) on a fairly old concept. From the thumbnail I was expecting either a rail shooter or a point and click and pull mouse below a point for cover type of thing. This was interesting. At first.

After completing wave 1 I was a bit disappointed at the lack of different enemy models or location. Also, the controls are very awkward. Movement is... okay, but I would have enjoyed it more if I could strafe left or right. The way the movement is now, it makes the game almost unplayable: you have to fight the controls to move your character into a position that is able to shoot an enemy, then you have to wrestle with the same controls to attempt aiming. This is not the age of Doom. Music is good. Doesn't help or harm the game itself, and is nice to listen to. Sounds were spot on, animation for bullets was great, reload animation could use some touching up as it seems like you just cock the charging handle.

--BUGS--
I was able to walk through numerous walls, and even get outside of the base as well. The enemies do not shoot at you when you are off the map, nor can you hit them. I will list a few locations that this happened:
-- Warehouse: backed up into the corner facing outside tower and passed through the corner, works walking forwards too.
-- Wall touching Fence beside tower: walk into the corner of the wall and you will be outside of the map, you can walk back inside from anypoint outside of the warehouse (I did not test about walking through the warehouse itself)
-- Tower: I was able to just, walk straight into the tower, you can just sit there and regenerate health (same with all of the glitches/bugs)

All in all, not bad... its actually okay. I say that the controls need to allow the player to simply strafe left/right and find another way to aim. Perhaps the mouse? The game could be more fun if the player could walk with WASD and use mouse to aim/fire... but at that point, I guess you might as well download CounterStrike.

Keep at it though, don't let this discourage you, you have some talent, just needs brushing up.

Okay. I have to say that this was very well made, written, and drawn. The music kept me in suspense, the ominous mood ever present, very good way to immerse the player. The gameplay was phenomenal, especially for a point-and-click, the puzzle box was unsuspected and a nice turn of pace for the game.

The game lacked much challenge, however... with the obstacles obvious and simple enough to figure out. The most difficult thing I faced in this game was finding a certain rat, but I won't say more as to not spoil the game. The "Mora" segment: This was perhaps the most satisfying thing in the game, as I felt very smug about defeating -spoiler-. The dialogue was great, I never felt it was lacking at any point.

Very, very nice game, it is more akin to being referred to as artwork! And I have to say, I usually don't play point-and-clicks, because there are usually some stupidly hard logic puzzles to what objects do what. So don't take what I said about the simple gameplay too hard, just maybe kick it up a small amount.

In conclusion: Very nice art style, love the comic approach; great music, really helped to immerse the player; The "Mora" game was fantastic and I very much enjoyed it; The characters are pretty fleshed out, you can sense their moods, and see how they are in everyday life.

I've favorited this game, and I really, really hope that you are able to make Chapter 2 and upload it.

BlackOlive responds:

Thank you!

I don't like convoluted puzzles, but I like logical ones, even if they're hard. So I always try to put in the most logical ones, whether it's real-world or game-logic - sometimes they're easy, sometimes they're not. But hey, that's the way it's gotta be ;)

But I suspect chapter 2 is going to have better puzzles. It is certainly going to be longer, at least two-three times.

I love it!

Great game.... got all donuts, what exactly is the Brawl Reference referring too?? I don't get it. Epicosity galore in this game/movie!!! need to find that secret medal get though...

In Super Smash Bros Brawl your characters like to randomly trip.

Great game... but..

I really think that you should include more party members. Or the ability to summon or buy(Mercenaries?)some members. The one little guy you get at the end doesn't help at all, and it doesn't give me any relief mindset. As soon as I saw the Shuliken teammate I said"Great, He's useless!" I mean, really? why not give us one of the Dogs? Or two? Hell, I'd settle for an army of Parsars. But I mean, really man? One puny little Shuliken thing? Might as well be a text box saying, "Hey, you're screwed!!" -,- Some of the lower level fights are harder than higher ones too. But I guess that's an opinion. Great game, but some serious work should be done to your party. Hell, considering you get teammates... what, twice? three times? anyway, you could have just left that WHOLE thing out. I wouldn't have noticed. But then you'd have people asking for a party system too...

All in all, people reading, great game, play it... Levels can be skipped, and fought later when you're better, and have fun with it. One of the best RPG/Strategy games I've played on Newgrounds to date. And I play a lot of Newgrounds and RPGs :) Another great game to look at would be Tentacle Wars btw.

That was WAAY to Easy.

It's a very fun game. I really like the way you have to arrange the crop circles at the beginning. You should make a button that allows you to keep playing after you win, because I was very disappointed at round 50.

Technical difficulties on my end...

My stupid ass arrow keys always act like they are still being pushed. I.E. Press left, then let go, then right. My computer thinks that left is still being pressed, so I have to press Left again, then quickly tap right to correct it. That is my only problem with games like this.

I don't like it.

This was terrible. Most of the time, the acorns are positioned at the edge of the building, causing me to fall off the rooftop after collecting it. That is a major pain in the ass all the time.

Ok.

WTF on level 5?

AMAZING

Well.... This is amazing. Lovely details... great and FUN history lesson.
My skip button doesn't work though :P

I am a beast (Period) If you got an Xbox360, Gamertag: KuulWataQuik Hit me up.
